MUTUAL AID WELLNESS COLLECTIVE

Who We Are

Mutual Aid Wellness Collective is a volunteer-led and volunteer operated mobile free clinic in West Asheville, North Carolina.

What We Do

We operate three mobile, free clinics each week embedded in the 12 Baskets free cafe in the heart of West Asheville during lunch hours.Mutual Aid Wellness Collective provides free access to basic healthcare needs including over-the-counter medication, wound care and treatment, and medication management. This care is otherwise unaffordable and unavailable to our unhoused and uninsured neighbors in the community. As a volunteer free clinic, we do not bill insurance or charge for services, and are supported by grants and donations, and we partner with other community organizations to bring healthcare access to people where they live.

Why It Matters

As a secular free clinic we orient ourselves alongside people who do not have sufficient access to healthcare for any reason: income, legal status, housing status, marginalized identity, etc. The members of our community who receive healthcare services and resources from us benefit from care that is non-judgemental, non-coercive and compassionate, on top of being free of charge. The providers who volunteer with us build relationships with fellow community members outside of the typical provider-patient hierarchy, co-creating a liberatory future focused on harm reduction, autonomy and care.
